For Christmas, my wife and I have agreed to getting each other just four things:

Something to want,

Something you need,

Something to wear,

And something to read.

I’ve got the first three figured out, but I’m searching for a good book for her.

By trade, she’s an elementary school librarian, and she enjoys a wide variety of topics. A few years ago her brother got her a book about the CIA, and she quite enjoyed it, so I’m thinking something non-fiction. She seems to enjoy books like !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

I’m thinking that she might enjoy a book on Russia, Iceland, or Antarctica. Can any of you think of any good non-fiction books that Mrs. BaconSandwich might enjoy?

A terribly random list of the top of my head:

pretty much anything from Bill Bryson

Anything from Edward Abbey

I read Unbroken recently and it was really good, never did see the movie though.

Oddly enough, my wife has a knack for picking books that get turned into movies.

If you get her something fairly serious, juxtapose it with a lightweight, humor based book. Something by David Sedaris is always good. By the way, it’s awesome there are relationship out there where the couple reads together! If someone is willing to read a book for you, that’s true commitment. Recently I liked Bridge On The Drin a, Slavery By Another Name, and Quantum Man:Richard Feynman’s Life in Science. Will say the Ivo Andric was a challenging read but engaging at the same time, so she may appreciate not having something she can fly through in two days.

I’ll have to check those out.

I keep thinking that if there was a book equivalent of EnglishRussia, I would get her that, but I have no idea if such a thing exists.

Just started “The Hot Zone” recently. Next up on my list is “Kiss or Kill: Confessions of a Serial Climber”. Pretty random but I stumbled across both around the same time; might fit your non-fiction pick.

Hot Zone was a pretty fun read. Another one she’d read (and showed me the dramatization) was Touching the Void - another crazy climbing story.

Not non-fiction, but The Martian is the best book I’ve read in years.
